Carfentanil Identified in Owen Sound

The presence of Carfentanil has been confirmed in two recent Owen Sound Police Service investigations. These are the first confirmed cases of the highly potent and dangerous narcotic in the City of Owen Sound.
In October, 2017 police seized drugs during the execution of a search warrant at a downtown apartment. A subsequent analysis on some of the drugs seized conducted by
Health Canada has confirmed the presence of Carfentanil.
Also in October, 2017 Patrol Officers investigated an impaired driver. A search warrant was obtained by police. Blood taken from the driver was analyzed and the presence of Carfentanil was detected.
The investigation into each incident is continuing and criminal charges are anticipated. Carfentanil is a highly dangerous substance that can be lethal in very miniscule doses. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than Fentanyl, 5000 times more potent than Heroin and 10,000 times as potent as Morphine.
