Fake News allegations in North Huron have been mentioned on CNN, AlJazeera, Russia Today, IBN and countless other international media organizations right down to government funded local radio stations in Ontario. Reeve Neil Vincent (519) 357-2336 took time out at council meeting to lecture Councillors and the public about "Fake News". Councillor Bill Knott confirmed what intelligent members of the public already knew, the Russians are already involved in the North Huron election. Reeve Vincent is expected to announce he will not be running for re-election in 2018 and is going to appoint Bill Knott as his replacement as part of a recent settlement/negotiation.
Blyth Free Press won't mention the fake news sites in question as we do not feel it is appropriate to promote them in any way.
Fake News protesters have taken to crippling these websites by turning off their ad-blockers and over-clicking advertisements. After a few weeks these useless clicks result in ad rates dropping by 80-95% cutting off virtually all revenue for the website. This also punishes the advertisers by making them pay for useless clicks. This tactic has shutdown over 1,200 Fake News sites in the last 2 months alone. Once the revenue dries up it is only a matter of time before the site disappears.
A Journalism Professor at Carlton University warns the public about "Fake News" stating the writer’s style is often a good indicator, noting the writing is often of low quality and lacks journalistic integrity. However, he says they make a few cents every time someone clicks on one of their links. The Over-Clicking protest is an excellent way for the public to organize and shut down these Fake News sites by dropping their per-click revenue down to a fraction of a penny.
