(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two males for human trafficking offences after a teenaged female victim came forward to report attempts were made to lure her into prostitution.

The incident occurred in March 2018 in Renfrew, and was reported to the OPP in April. Detective Constable Wendy Saunders led the investigation and as a result arrested and charged the two male suspects. Liam COYNE aged 18 of Renfrew and Logan O'BRIEN aged 18 of Ottawa are each charged with attempting to procure a person under the age of 18 to provide sexual services. O'Brien is also charged with one count of breach of a probation order. The accused persons were released on an undertaking with conditions and a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on May 30.

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against his/her will. If you, or someone you know is being exploited contact your local police service or call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call 9-1-1.
