Impaired Boater Arrested, Passengers Charged - CONNOR, COX, MCDOUGALL, MCLEOD & MOORE

(THE ARCHIPELAGO TOWNSHIP, ON) - On June 16, 2018 at shortly before 6:30 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a boat load of intoxicated youths in the South Channel area of Georgian Bay in The Archipelago Township, Ontario. A vessel was located and the officer spoke to the operator. The officer determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Scott CONNOR, a 23 year old male from Parry Sound, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operate vessel - care or control while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Operate vessel - more 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC, and
Operate vessel underway with open liquor, to section 32(3) of the CC.


The driver was released and summonsed to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on July 19, 2018.

Passenger, Hayden COX, a 24 year-old male from Parry Sound, Ontario was charged with having liquor open in other than licenced premises, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

Passenger, Connor MCDOUGALL, a 22 year-old male from McDougall Township, Ontario was charged with having liquor open in other than licenced premises, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

Passenger, Connor MCLEOD, a 23 year-old male from McDougall Township, Ontario was charged with having liquor open in other than licenced premises, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

Passenger, Taylor MOORE, a 23 year-old male from East Gwillimbury, Ontario was charged with having liquor open in other than licenced premises, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

The OPP reminds vessel operators that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when operating a boat and that the same laws apply to boats as vehicles. Anyone who suspects a vessel operator that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
