On Saturday August 4 at approximately 10:30 pm Renfrew OPP officers responded to a report that a witness to a possible impaired driver had made a citizen's arrest of the suspect. Officers arrived at the location on Whelan Road in the Township of Admaston Bromley to find a male driver who had been drinking. After failing a roadside alcohol screening test he was arrested and taken to the detachment for further breath tests. At the conclusion of the investigation officers charged Garett McDONALD aged 18 of Renfrew with driving over 80mgs and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol content (BAC) above 0. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 12. Provincial Constable Marc Bennett led the investigation.

Police located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The female driver was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Anne McKENNIREY aged 58 of Bristol Que., was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 12. PC Jason Golds led the investigation.
Witnesses to suspected impaired drivers are encouraged to call 9-1-1. The OPP consider impaired driving a life threatening emergency! Provide as much detail as you can about the vehicle, licence plate, location and direction of travel. Did you know the only exception to the distracted driving law for the public is in an emergency to call 9-1-1? It is legal if you can safely do so, otherwise pull over and make the call. We do not encourage people to make a citizen's arrest for public safety reasons.
