The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 164 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Itís the First Day of School
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to wish all the kids going to school this morning a safe, fun and memorable school year.

Just a reminder to all motorists that there will be an increase in traffic and pedestrians, especially young children out on our streets today. Please reduce your speed in the area of crosswalks and school zones, remember slower is safer.

With school buses back on the road, all drivers must stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper red lights and stop arm flashing, regardless of the speed limit or number of lanes. Motorists failing to comply may be issued a $490 fine and six demerit points.

Back to school safety is a community effort. Letís make the 2018-2019 school year here in Chatham-Kent a safe one.

Man Charged with Weapons Dangerous CK18041318
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a report of a suspicious man on Tilbury Street. While speaking to police, the man pulled out a pocket knife. Officers ordered the man to drop the knife, however he failed to comply and opened it. The man eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody following a struggle with police.

The 24-year-old Tilbury man was charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting a peace officer. He was released pending a future court date of September 25, 2018.

Man Charged with Theft CK18041386
Last night around 7:00 p.m. police attended a residence in Chatham in regards to a stolen bicycle.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible. A couple hours later, officers located the man on Inshes Avenue and he was arrested.

Dale Mason-Delaney, 28 years, of Merritt Avenue in Chatham was charged with theft under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of September 18, 2018.

The bicycle was recovered by police and returned to its rightful owner.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK18041437
The man is currently bound by conditions to obey a daily curfew of 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and not to possess or consume unlawful drugs.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed the man walking on Thames Street in Chatham. The man was arrested for breaching his curfew.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and hydromorphone pills.

The 35-year-old Leamington man has been charged with two counts of failing to comply and two counts of drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK18041439
Around 3:30 a.m. the woman was observed in the area of Thames Street and Dover Street in Chatham. Through investigation, police learned that the woman was wanted by Windsor Police.

The 40-year-old woman was arrested and transported back to Windsor for court purposes.
