(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - On Friday September 7, 2018 at approximately 8:00 p.m. an officer from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a white GMC SUV on the south side of Brighton, Ontario after receiving complaints from the public that the driver of the motor vehicle was suspected of driving while impaired.

The officer spoke with the male driver then made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) Demand; however the driver refused to provide a suitable sample of his breath into the ASD.

As a result, 59 year old Steven Simon of Brighton, Ontario was arrested and charged with fail / refuse to provide a breath sample. His licence has been suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario on October 10, 2018.

The Northumberland OPP would like to remind the public that the offence of 'Fail or Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample' carries the same consequences as 'Driving While Ability Impaired' and 'Driving with more than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood'.

"Drive sober or get pulled over."
