(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - A 41-year-old North York resident has been charged with several criminal offences following an incident that took place last week south of Goderich.

On February 8, 2019 at approximately 2:46 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver that was parked in a vehicle at a motel parking lot south of Goderich.

Within minutes an officer arrived on scene and located a male sitting in a pickup truck with the engine running. While speaking with the male driver the officer observed the male to be consuming alcohol and exhibiting signs that he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was directed out of his vehicle and upon being told he was being arrested he refused and got back into his truck.

Additional officers responded to the scene and the male still refused to comply with the officer's demands and physically resisted arrest. As such, the officers utilized a conducted energy weapon in an effort to gain control of the male. During this struggle the male attempted to disarm an officer of the conducted energy weapon.

Ultimately the officers gained control of the male and he was taken into custody.

He was later transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests where he subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

Bartlomiej DZIEWIATKOWSKI, 41 years of age, from North York has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, Resist Peace Officer, Attempt Disarming a Peace Officer. He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 25, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
