(GODERICH, ON) - An early morning traffic stop for speeding has led to an Impaired 80 Plus charge for a Goderich driver.

This morning (22Feb) at approximately 3:50 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling on Cove Road in Goderich when the officer observed a compact car speeding on Cove Road.

A traffic stop was conducted and while police were speaking with the driver the odour of alcohol was detected on the driver's breath. As a result a roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail. He was then placed under arrest and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Alex HOY, 24 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Speeding, Fail to Surrender Licence and Novice Driver BAC Above Zero. He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 25, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
