(PERTH EAST, ON) - On February 22, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County Detachment was operating a cruiser equipped with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

An alert on the system signalled an expired validation sticker. Through the investigation, it was determined that the rear licence plate on the motor vehicle was affixed with an altered validation sticker.

While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odour of an alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver was read the demand to provide a sample of his breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver registered an 'Alert' and had his licence suspended for 3 days.

Daryl ISZCZUK, 44-years-old, of the Township of Perth East was also charged with and issued Provincial Offence Notices under the Highway Traffic Act for the following:

Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit.
Fail to surrender insurance card.

The OPP's ALPR-equipped vehicles are part of an effort to target those who drive illegally on Ontario's roads and highways, such as suspended drivers, drivers of stolen vehicles and other vehicles with plates in poor standing.
