20 Year Old Attempts To Avoid RIDE Now Facing Impaired Charge

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) - On March 2, 2019, members of Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE spot check on Grey Road 17 at Grey Road 17A in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
At approximately 12:06 a.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle that had been travelling towards the spot check pull into a driveway on Grey Road 17 and turn off the headlights.
The officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver who had been drinking alcohol. Upon registering a "fail" on the approved screening device, the driver was transported to an OPP detachment for breath tests, which he failed.
20-year old Zachary AKIWENZIE of South Bruce Peninsula was charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on March 14, 2019.
