(SOUTH HURON, ON) - A 32-year-old Lucan man remains in custody stemming from charges that were laid against him over the weekend in Exeter.

At approximately 10:19 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2109 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Huron County Paramedics responded to a complaint of a male driver passed out behind the wheel of a car parked on Wellington Street East in Exeter. Upon arrival officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen several hours earlier in London.

The investigating officer also noted the vehicle's engine was running and the male driver was slumped over in the driver's seat. The responding officer attempted to wake the unconscious driver however the driver was unresponsive to those efforts. As a result, the investigating officer forced entry into the locked vehicle to check on the driver's condition. Based on the observations at the scene, the investigating officer arrested the male driver for Impaired Operation by a drug.

Following his arrest, with the assistance of paramedics the male was transported to a local hospital where he was assessed and later released from hospital care.

Jason ELLIS, 32 years of age, from Lucan is facing charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Impaired Operation by a Drug. He remains in police custody with a bail hearing scheduled for April 24, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
