(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - Let's just say when you're under the influence of drugs you may make some poor decisions. As was the case this past weekend for a 20-year-old from Goderich.

Shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Huron County Paramedic Services received a call about a person that was laying down beside a pickup truck in the middle of the intersection of Isaac Street and Victoria Street.

Upon arrival officers located the suspect laying on the roadway with no shoes on. Upon further investigation the officer was able to determine the male had been operating the pickup truck and he was observed to be driving erratically. The confused driver was assessed medically and was transported to a local hospital.

While at the hospital officers observed further signs that the male was impaired due to drugs. As a result he was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) attended the hospital and assisted with the investigation. The accused completed the DRE evaluation and it was deemed the accused was impaired by a drug.

A search incident to arrest of the accused also resulted in police seizing a quantity of MDMA (Ecstasy) and Cocaine from the driver.

Kyle SMITH, 20 years of age from Goderich is facing the following charges:
Operation While Impaired by a Drug
Possession of a Schedule I Substance - MDMA
Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 24, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
