(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Drivers traveling on the roadways continue to exceed posted speed limits. Over this past weekend, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located four stunt drivers. Stunt driving occurs when a police officer finds a driver driving in excess of fifty (50) kilometres per hour of the posted speed limit.

On July 12, 2019, the first driver was located travelling more than double the posted speed limit on Perth Line 36, east of Mitchell in the Municipality of West Perth.

Mitchell MURPHY, 19-years-old of Kleinburg was charged with racing.

On July 12, 2019, the second driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Road 164, south of Mitchell in the Municipality of West Perth.

Quinn BUCHANAN, 20-years-old of North Perth was charged with racing.

On July 13, 2019, the third driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Road 164, north of Mitchell in the Municipality of West Perth.

Stephen GORDON, 19-years-old of Markdale was charged with racing.

On July 14, 2019, the fourth driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Line 21, south of Staffa in the Municipality of West Perth.

Brooklyn MacLEAN, 19-years-old of West Perth was charged with racing.

All driver's received licence suspensions, and will appear in court at a later date to speak to the charges. The motor vehicles were towed and impounded.

"Speed is a significant factor in the number of fatalities and the number and severity of the injuries that result from road crashes. It is clear that reduced speeds not only reduce the likelihood of a crash but also reduce the severity of injuries when crashes occur," Inspector Rob Scott, Perth County OPP detachment commander.

Report dangerous driving behaviour immediately to police by calling 1-888-301-1122. In an emergency, pull over and dial 9-1-1.
