(NORTH HURON, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against a Wingham man following a vicious dog attack that sent three children to hospital.

On November 13, 2019 Huron OPP and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a church / private school located on John Street West in Wingham to assist three young children that had just been attacked by an out of control vicious dog.

The three involved victims, ages 4, 8, and 16, sustained various dog bite injuries from the attack. They were treated and released later that day from a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The subsequent police investigation determined an American Staffordshire Terrier, a banned breed in Ontario, slipped its collar and immediately bolted from the owner's residence to the nearby church / private school where it began attacking the children. A father of one of the children and an older sister stepped in attempt to thwart off the attack however the attack continued until the dog owner arrived and was able to gain control of the animal.

As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Wingham resident Noah YOUNG has been charged under the Dog Owner's Liability Act with three counts of Owner of Dog - Fail to Prevent Biting or Attacking a Person and one count of Owner of Dog - Own a Pit Bull. He will have to attend Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich on December 3, 2019 to answer to the charges.
