(SOUTH HURON, ON) - A recent traffic stop just south of Exeter has led to several charges against a London resident.

On January 11, 2020 at approximately 11:38 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a car travelling southbound on London Road with a licence plate that was unauthorized for the vehicle in question. As such a traffic stop was initiated and the driver pulled over just south of Exeter at Kirkton Road.

While speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol and was displaying several signs of impairment. As a result the driver was subsequently arrested for Impaired Operation. Upon arrest the accused was searched and a quantity of suspected cocaine was found on the driver and in the vehicle. In addition, a can of open beer was found inside the vehicle.

Upon trying to confirm the identity of the driver the accused tried to obstruct the officer by using a driver's licence that was not issued to him. Further checks also revealed the driver was driving with a suspended driver's licence.

The driver was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Both of his samples provided to the Intoxilizer Technician were found to be over the legal limit.

Thammasak PHOUTTHARATH, 36 years of age from London has been charged with the following offences:
