(SOUTH HURON, ON) - A timely call from a witness last weekend in Exeter helped Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers take another impaired driver off the streets.

On Friday, March 20, 2020 at approximately 4:15 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to Main Street South in Exeter to investigate a possible impaired driver that was in a parked vehicle near a commercial business.

Officers arrived on scene and located the male suspect attempting to start his vehicle. Upon speaking with the male officers noted the suspect had been consuming some alcohol and was displaying several signs that he was impaired. As a result he was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests.

Upon arrival at the detachment the driver provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his tests were determined to be above the legal limit.

James MCVEENEY, 24 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) and Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 18, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Exeter.

His vehicle was impounded and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
