(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) - A traffic stop early this morning near Amberley has resulted in Impaired Operation charges and then some for a Kincardine resident.

Just before 1:00 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a pickup truck that was travelling southbound on Bluewater Veteran's Highway (Highway 21) from Amberley. Upon stopping the vehicle the investigating officer recognized the driver and was aware that he was driving with a suspended driver's licence. As such the driver was placed under arrest for driving while under suspension.

Additionally, the investigating officer noted the driver was displaying signs of impairment thus a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted. The driver performed poorly and was arrested for Impaired Operation. A search incident to arrest revealed the driver to be in possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine.

The accused was transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for subsequent testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). Ultimately it was deemed the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.

Donald FERGUSON, 51 years of age from Kincardine has been charged with Impaired Operation, Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine and Drive While Under Suspension. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 13, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
