(PERTH EAST, ON) - A 29-year-old cyclist received minor injuries after they were struck by a car in the Township of Perth East last Friday.

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. on July 10 2020, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services, and the Perth East Fire Department were called to the collision on Road 107, near Line 40, in the Township of Perth East. The cyclist was transported to a local hospital via ambulance. The driver of the car was not injured. The investigation revealed that the cyclist was travelling northbound on Road 107, when the car came from behind and struck the cyclist.

The driver of the car, Farzad ASKARI, 25, of Kitchener, was charged with:

Careless Driving

Drivers are reminded to pay attention and share the road with cyclists. When a motor vehicle passes a cyclist, a minimum distance of one metre must be maintained between the vehicle and the cyclist (where practical). Not only is this a safety concern, but failure to do so may result in a fine and an additional two demerit points on the driver's record. Whenever possible, drivers should change lanes to pass.

Anyone with information regarding this or any incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or online at www.opp.ca/reporting. Should you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous online message at http://hc-cs.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
