(HOWICK, ON) - Some wild events in Wroxeter last Saturday night has led to a handful of criminal charges for a Wroxeter resident.

At approximately 10:37 p.m. on July 18, 2020 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) started receiving calls from concerned citizens in Wroxeter about a vehicle that was driving dangerously throughout the town. Some citizens managed to get the erratic driver stopped, however when the driver exited his vehicle he engaged in a physical altercation and assaulted one of the witnesses.

While this was taking place, the suspect's vehicle was set into motion as the driver failed to put the vehicle into park. The vehicle ultimately went down a hill and collided with a hydro pole. The driver returned to his smashed up vehicle and was attempting to start the vehicle when he was approached by an off-duty police officer that went to investigate after hearing all the commotion.

The officer requested the male to wait in the vehicle until uniformed officers arrived on scene however the driver disobeyed those orders and walked away to a nearby apartment building. Uniformed officers arrived shortly thereafter whereupon they located and arrested the impaired driver.

The accused was transported to an OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to an Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples were analyzed and they were found to be over the legal limit.

Andrew PATTON, 23 years of age, from Wroxeter has been charged with:
Dangerous Operation
Operation While Impaired
Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
Assault With a Weapon
Mischief

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 5, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
