(MIDDLESEX, ON) - On Monday August 31, 2020 at 05:04 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Dept. and Middlesex-London EMS responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on Prospect Hill Rd. near Eight Mile Rd. in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

Police located a single motor vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a group of trees, resulting in catastrophic damage. One lone occupant was extricated from the vehicle at the scene and transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries by EMS.

The driver later died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) has been deployed to the area to assist in the investigation. Prospect Hill Rd. had been closed for approximately six hours as the investigation continued. The roadway has since re-opened to the public.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending notifications to next of kin.

The OPP are reminding the public that we must all do our part to ensure our roadways are safe. Please slow down, wear your seat belt, put away the phones and other distractions and never driver while impaired.

While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, police believe that speed was a factor in this collision.
