(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - One person has been arrested after they committed a break and enter with a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on August 23 2020, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter in progress on Perth Road 131, just north of Milverton, in the Township of Perth East. Two males were seen entering a shed on a rural property, and removing items to a red vehicle. The suspects then fled the scene.

Just before 1:00 p.m. on the same day, police then received a call of a suspicious person at an address on Ellen Street, in Atwood, Municipality of North Perth. When police arrived on scene, it was determined that the person had been responsible for the break and enter, and was still in possession of the stolen items. The vehicle which had been used in the break and enter was stolen from the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

As a result, Michael MURRIN, 38, of Kitchener, was arrested and charged with:

Theft Under $5000
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Break, Enter a Place - commit indictable offence
Failure to Comply with Release Order - other than attend court

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, at a later date, to answer to the charges.

The stolen property, including chainsaws and power tools, were returned to the owner.

The second suspect is still outstanding.

The Perth County OPP would like to remind the public to keep vehicles locked at all times, and never leave keys in, or near, a vehicle. Unlocked vehicles become easy targets, and are used to commit other crimes, including break and enters, or driving offences, such as impaired driving (by drugs or alcohol). Stolen vehicles also pose a risk to the public when drivers flee from police, driving in a dangerous manner in order to evade arrest.

Anyone with information regarding this or any incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or online at www.opp.ca/reporting. Should you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous online message at http://hc-cs.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
