(NORTH PERTH, ON) - A scary situation resulted in charges for two people, but fortunately no one was injured when a driver was found to be impaired by drugs, asleep behind the wheel of a car.

On September 05 2020, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane on Main Street East, in Listowel, Municipality of North Perth. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer located the driver passed out behind the wheel with the engine running, and the vehicle in drive. The officer woke the driver, and while speaking with him, noticed the driver was displaying signs of impairment through a drug. Further observations of the vehicle resulted in officers locating cocaine and drug paraphernalia in plain view.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to a local OPP detachment for further examination. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) conducted a series of tests and the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

As a result, Tyler James HOBAN, 34, of Kitchener, was charged with:
Possession of Schedule I Substance - Cocaine
Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs

The passenger of the vehicle was also arrested for the drugs in the vehicle, and upon further search, was found to be in possession of purple fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. As a result, Amanda WEAVER, 38, of Kitchener, was charged with:
Possession of Schedule I Substance - Cocaine
Possession of Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs

Both accused parties have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
